Children's Church

Highfield Road offers Children’s Church to children between the ages of 5  and 11 years.

We meet weekly on a Sunday morning at 11 am – 12:15pm.  We spend time in the main church service and then leave and go downstairs to the church hall to continue with our own activities. On the second Sunday in the month we have a Family Service when we stay upstairs in the main Church and the service is geared towards all ages.

Children’s Church is run by Eileen and Jen who aim to offer a happy environment for the children to learn about God, the life of Jesus and many stories from the Bible.   Our hope is that the children will learn, not only about the life of Jesus, but also carry what they have learnt into their every day life and into adulthood.  As the Children’s church is growing we are extending our staff base.

The session includes singing, a time for news and a prayer time when the children have the opportunity to make suggestions or share concerns that they want us all to pray for.   We then split into two groups.  Eileen takes the older children and Jen, the younger ones.  Both groups read the same story and then activities are arranged according to their age.

Both Eileen and Jen are CRB checked and work closely with the Minister, Young People’s Group (teenagers) and the members of the Church to make sure that they are providing the best Christian teaching and care.

Rahema from Uganda

The Children’s Church sponsor a young girl called Rahema who lives in Uganda.  A proportion of our children's church giving is sent to her, to enable her to attend school and we receive and send correspondence to her. The money, which is sent monthly, goes to a charity called "Smile International" who administer child sponsorship and work in developing countries.

We celebrate the children’s attendance and work at our Children’s Church Anniversary which takes place in July (usually involving a BBQ or some similar celebration).

At Christmas there is a Nativity (involving the Young People’s Group) which is always a big success.
